The Lady Who Lived in the Shoe
Project type
Sculptures
Date
2014
Location
Sequim, WA
Ray designed and built a 17-foot-high steel high-heel shoe for Evan Alexander Pease’s garden installation, The Lady Who Lived in the Shoe, at the 2014 Northwest Flower & Garden Show in Seattle. Constructed at his former shop in Sequim, WA, the piece was made from repurposed plate steel and metal screen, with glasswork by Diane Roberts of Port Townsend. Due to its scale, the structure was built in sections and assembled on-site at the show. Unfortunately, it had to be cut apart for removal. This project was one of Ray’s earliest collaborations with an architectural firm and the Flower & Garden Show, marking a fun, challenging, and stressful milestone in his career. Nearly 12 years later, remnants of the sculpture still linger in his current shop in Gorst, WA.
